Fred Lutger - Quest For
A Bear On The Ground
We arrived at the Caution stand a few minutes after 3:00pm and got ready to hunt. This afternoon was warmer than recent days and the bugs were out. I set up both my digital camera and Fred's video camera on tripods. To take a digital picture all I had to do was touch the button.
Suddenly the bear Woofed loudly, slapped some bushes and ran away. I asked Fred if the bear would be back after making such a ruckus. "Yes," he answered quietly. "He will probably do the same thing 2 or 3 times before he settles down and comes in." Twenty minutes later the bear snuck in and did a repeat on the woof and run act. "He's definitely going to come back now," Fred whispered. Later, Fred pointed toward the ditch area and signaled that the bear was coming. I already knew, the bear had the inside of my nose dancing again. Soon we heard soft footsteps as the bear walked down the ditch that was a few yards to our left, it sounded like it was going to walk out 4 yards from us. But it didn't. Bingo, in a minute we
saw the bear on the left side of the bait logs, just inside the trees.
