Into The Wild
Hogs Again ...
Then we skulked over to the pond where I almost got a shot yesterday. A red hog was laying in the mud but it was barely visible. I put a sneak on it and when I was 10 yards away I got a good look at it and realized it was a young hog. Our next target area was a deep gully between the woods and the swamp. The sun was the perfect angle to illuminate everything at ground level and on the way to the gully I saw a big red hog sleeping under a pine tree blow down. A closer look turned up two more hogs in the same group of fallen trees. Rick got out my camera and followed behind me as I stalked, very slowly, to the area where the hogs were sleeping. I stayed behind pine trees until I ran out of them 20 yards from the red hog. I put my pin on the hogs vitals, held it there for a moment, and released the arrow. And shot over it. All three hogs ran away. Later on, when I looked at Rick's pictures I realized he had taken one just before I shot. You can see the blow down pine trees the hogs were bedded down in. I am a full draw on the left side, you can see my bow, but I'm hidden by a pine tree. One wild hog is visible in the picture and it is on the far right. It is not the hog I shot at but it is still cool that we got a hog in the picture. Here the picture is. NEXT: A
