A Wild Hog Bowhunt In Progress - 2003

July 15, 2003 - I'd like to say this was an easy find, because it should have been, but the truth is I walked all over the place ... in the wrong direction. Which seemed like the right direction at the time because after my shot the entire group of hogs took off straight South.

I was certain this was double lung hit, which it was. I didn't expect the hog to be very far, and it wasn't, so I walked South into a brushy draw, which was a different route than the hog had taken. And when I saw some buzzards sitting in a dead tree in the draw I feared the worst. I searched through every bush and tree in that area.

Unsuccessful at that I returned to the last place I saw the hogs and went back to basics. Since there was no blood trail I followed the most prominent trail, which immediately turned East and made a fork to the North, the complete opposite direction. The rest was easy. The hog, a black boar, had made a "U" Turn and was laying 60 yards from where I had last seen it. (Back To The First Part Of This Hunt)
