| WaterDog Surface Technologies: We've Got You Covered
Technological innovation continues at a rapid pace at BowTech with the
opening of their new, state-of-the-art dipping facility, and fulltime operations
are now underway.
The high-end, hydrographic transfer facility, the only one of its kind
on the West Coast, uses a unique ink coating process to apply colors and
patterns to a wide variety of surface materials, including plastics, fiberglass,
composites, leather, aluminum, and other metals. Archery manufacturers,
sporting goods companies, and auto manufacturers, among others, have used
the process for years to apply thin film designs to their products.
BowTech, parent company of the subsidiary, will operate the plant under
the name of WaterDog Surface Technologies. WaterDog's production capability
is extensive.
With BowTech's products on line, the facility is running at 15% of its
overall capacity. This leaves availability for other customers in the region
to take advantage of a new business opportunity. As a result, WaterDog
is currently seeking alliances from archery, gun, and other outdoor industry
manufacturers that source their coating requirements to external contractors.
"BowTech is renowned for the great quality of its products and we are
applying this quality to everything we do with our dipping facility," said
John Strasheim, the CEO of BowTech and the chief architect behind WaterDog.
"Beyond BowTech products, we see this process as a great opportunity for
manufacturers of other hunting equipment, such as deer calls, sights, knives,
guns, sunglasses -- you name it. They now have the option of working with
a company that knows and understands the special needs of the outdoor and
affiliated industries."
WaterDog's 20,000 square foot, facility houses a series of fairly complex
procedures that combine automated and manual steps, including base coating,
curing, ink transfer, rinse, dry off, two UV-protective topcoats, and a
final curing. When completed, the application only adds a few thousandths
of an inch to a surface layer, and provides a durable finish capable of
lasting many years. WaterDog has hundreds of patterns available including
high-definition camouflage, as well as designs that replicate wood, fiberglass,
and brushed metals.
WaterDog Surface Technologies is a subsidiary of BowTech, (www.bowtecharchery.com),
manufacturer and distributor of the world's finest compound bows and archery
equipment, which was founded in 1999 by CEO, John Strasheim, and by VP
of Research and Development, Kevin Strother. WaterDog licenses its automated
Cubic printing process from ColorWorks.
