NSSF Announces ‘Good Shots, Great Stories’ Winners More than $17,500 has been awarded to writers and photographers in NSSF’s 7th annual “Good Shots, Great Stories” contest. The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), which hosts the contest, announced winners at the annual conference of the Outdoor Writers Association of America (OWAA) in Spokane, June 20. The contest is designed to recognize outstanding published or broadcast coverage of interesting, unique and even unexpected personalities who participate in the shooting sports. Subjects can range from Olympic gold-medal winners to a history teacher who has coached the high school rifle team for 30 years, and from young hunters who overcome extraordinary challenges to any of countless angles that make shooting and hunting such a special part of American culture. “We extend our sincere congratulations and thanks to all professional communicators who, through excellence in covering good shots and great stories, help promote and preserve shooting sports lifestyles,” said Doug Painter, NSSF president. First-place winners received $1,000, with $500 for second place and $250 for third. In the General Consumer Media category, employer policies prevented winners from receiving cash, so NSSF contributed unclaimed winnings to a youth essay contest administered by OWAA.
