The ‘Smashwich’ – Musings From Kelly Heard

Do you know what a smashwich is? It’s a PB & J that’s been made on a wonderfully shaped dusty rock that you slightly brush the big stuff off of…

or perhaps the tailgate of your pick-up that still has last weekends fish guts sun baked to it…

or placed in a day pack and then smooshed in that day pack all day long as you hike around to the point where the bread takes on the color of the jam…

usually raspberry colored, in my case…

But ain’t it funny how a ‘smashwich’ tastes so much better when eaten in the wilderness…

While sitting in the dirt or the grass, leaning against a rock or tree than any sandwich ever does when dinning on a perfectly prepared and triangularly cut P B and J in the comfort of your own home?

Is this just me or can some of you relate with this?

I relate! The only thing I carry for a day in a tree is peanutbutter on rye sandwiches and a water bag.

Here is a solid good tip. Pee off the tree and deer lick it up for the salt. Idiots tell us the deer get plenty of salt from the roads, well idiots I hunt 6 miles from paved roads. Oh and moon a deer camera, I cannot stop laughing.

Kelly, Ive eaten my share of “The Smashwich” and the more smashed it gets the better it tastes, especially after a few hours in the woods.
