“Learn by Doing” – that’s the motto of the 4-H Shooting Sports Program, and with donations from supporters like Larry and Brenda Potterfield, founders of MidwayUSA, instructors will be able to help the participating students learn by hosting educational workshops all across the United States.

Since the program began in 1980, over 2.3 million youth have been introduced to shooting, hunting and other outdoor activities. This program wouldn’t be possible without the over 15,000 adult volunteer leaders and the donations from people like the Potterfields.

“The 4-H Shooting Sports Program is one of the largest shooting programs in the nation,” said MidwayUSA founder and CEO Larry Potterfield. “The shooting clinics 4-H organizes are a really great way to teach our youth the importance of firearm safety and the fundamentals of a fun sport!”

The 4-H Shooting Sports program offers a variety of educational opportunities for the participating students ranging from the fundamentals of firearm safety, wildlife conservation to ethical hunting practices and habitat management. Qualifying students also have the option of partaking in the Teen Ambassador Program, offered to youth ages 15-18. This program is a series of clinics that help develop their skills in leadership, public speaking and community service.

“Thanks to the help of MidwayUSA and the Potterfield family, the National 4-H Shooting Sports program will be able to develop more educational workshops across the country,” said Committee Representative Conrad Arnold. “Establishing a new model of ‘train the trainer’ will allow us to develop a better and larger National training team in order to meet the needs of state 4-H programs.”
