Petersen’s BOWHUNTING – The Modern Bowhunting Authority – has named veteran outdoor writer Bob Humphrey as its new Crossbow Field Editor. In this new position, Humphrey will write The X-Factor crossbow column, a regular department, as well as cover crossbows and crossbow-related issues in a variety of features and product reviews. A long-time BOWHUNTING contributor, Humphrey has written the magazine’s Whitetails column for the last four years, drawing upon his background as a certified wildlife biologist and an avid bowhunter.

“Bob is certainly no stranger to our readers, and his extensive field experience with both vertical bows and crossbows made him the obvious choice for this new role,” BOWHUNTING Editor Christian Berg said. “Bob is one of the few upper-echelon outdoor writers who embraced crossbows early on and has distinguished himself as one of the most knowledgeable voices on the subject.

“The popularity of crossbows has exploded in recent years, and as states continue to liberalize crossbow-hunting regulations, we expect that trend to continue. I am confident Bob will do an excellent job serving this increasingly important segment of our audience.”

Humphrey’s first The X-Factor column will appear in BOWHUNTING’s August issue, which hits newsstands July 3.

“By acknowledging the crossbow as a viable archery tool, BOWHUNTING has placed itself on the leading edge of modern bowhunting, and I’m excited to be part of that,” Humphrey said. “I look forward to building on established relationships and creating new ones with folks in the crossbow industry.”

A resident of Maine, Humphrey holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in wildlife biology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He is a registered Maine guide, a certified wildlife biologist and a full-time outdoor communicator. In 2010, Humphrey was honored as the Quality Deer Management Association’s Communicator of the Year. He has nearly 40 years experience hunting large and small game throughout North America and more than 15 years covering the archery industry for a variety of publications.
