THIS VINTAGE PHOTO from 1963 was snapped during an NFAA tourney in southern Indiana. That’s the same year I tagged my first record book whitetail, thanks to the instinctive shooting skills I’d honed on the target range. That Hoosier buck was shot at under 25 yards, the same distance many modern day whitetails are taken. For my money, getting close to game is what bowhunting is all about.
