Based on considerable past experience, many times negative, I have no scarcity of thoughts about what makes up good hunting boots. So when I took my new Woodsman Boots from Field & Stream Stores out of the box I didn’t know what to expect. I pulled them on and laced the boot-strings up, they felt great, and right then I realized they were special in the world of hunting boots. From the get-go they were comfortable, not too wide or too narrow, not too long or short, they didn’t pinch my feet anywhere, they were  very comfortable. I walked around the house and went outside for a longer walk and easily and comfortably knocked out 2 miles.
I decided to wear them all day. That night as I took them off they earned a gold star for comfort.
Lately, we’ve had more rain than usual, perfect for testing boots to see if they were waterproof. The next morning I walked out to some deep standing water behind my house and spent 20 minutes walking and standing in that water. After that I took the boots off, laced them up, and left them standing up in the water for two days.
When I pulled the Woodsman boots out of the water I put them on, the insides were dry. These boots were winners in terms of being waterproof, too. And at the Writers Camp we did a lot of walking in both unstable orange grove sand and the Florida scrub tree woods and swamps and my feet did not get hot. Â So these boots proved to be breathable as well.
I think the single most difficult hunting item to work out favorably is Hunting Boots. There are plenty of reasons to be un-happy with them. Such as; some touted as “waterproof” are not. And most waterproof ones are very hot to wear if you walk any distance. Many are too stiff and some are too soft. Some have soles that are so hard you can’t stand in one place very long without your feet hurting. But my biggest personal complaint is about the comfort of many hunting boots, they are not comfortable early on … and not later on either.
However, these Woodsman waterproof boots from Field & Stream Stores were excellent in every way. Perfect from the first time I put them on to the last time when I packed them in my suitcase to fly back home after the Writers Camp and Hog Hunt.
