This Morning John Askew Is With Me Where I’ve Seen Several Bucks.

Opening day is always a big deal around here. This year, due to a rotator cuff shoulder injury, I can’t hunt yet and took my friend John Askew out. We saw some deer shadows while it was still dark. Then at first light 5 big bucks walked past us but John felt the light was questionable enough to make a good shot. John had to pass.
The big 5 scattered around the area, marking tree limbs, pawing scrapes. There was quite a bit of locking horns and pushing and shoving too.
All together we saw over 20 deer, about half does and half bucks. To get you in the hang of what happened, a few of the pics are below. Two bucks are about to engage antlers while a third buck watches from close up.
The two bucks get started up and shove and push one another around. The other buck stays with them.
Two of the 5 mature bucks that walked by us at first light are in the pic below. They are the good 10-pointer and the Claw Head buck.
Here are two more bucks off to our left that are about to lock horns.
And next thing we get two more.
Another thing we saw happening this morning was marking and rubbing antlers on tree limbs.
Cut Ear showed up after 7:15 am and I got a picture of him looking imn the direction of the ground blind.
Claw Head left earlier than that, going due east into the gulch’s thick woods.
John and I waited until 10:30 and saw several deer, mostly does. When we got to camp we checked with everyone  Robbie Cramer had taken a wild boar and it was already skinned and file dressed. We drove into town and ate breakfast at Kelsey Roberts restaurant, the Asher Cafe.  The afternoon bowhunt is coming up soon.
