Preparing for a Lengthy Hunting Trip

Sometimes you have to wait awhile before having the opportunity to take a clean shot. Bowhunters especially must have patience, but being decked out with all the proper supplies is a big help too. Whether you are going to be set up on your own property or are taking a hunting trip abroad, it is necessary to have a variety of provisions, tools, weapons, and perhaps camping equipment including a shelter, cooking utensils and a sleeping bag. Here are the absolute essentials every hunter needs to walk away with a trophy.

Dressing Comfortably and Sensibly

The most important thing you can do during a hunting excursion is dress for the situation. Long sleeves are best when hunting, no matter what time of the year. Keeping your body covered will help to conceal your smell. Use your Ambush Outdoor Products to help conceal yourself from game and you will have the opportunity be successful. Jackets and vests not only keep you warm while hunting but they also provide you with convenient pockets and compartments. If you go out dressed properly, you can hunt for hours in comfort.

Eating While Hunting

It is best to stay well hydrated and well fed when going on a hunting trip. If you are successful, you will eventually have a great source of protein to take home but during the hunt you need to supply your own food sources. Pack some jerky, a few small bags of nuts and anything else that you won’t need to cook. Carry at least a few days’ worth of water unless you know there will be a fresh source of water nearby and you are capable of sterilizing it. Ultimately, small, bite-sized snacks are best for keeping you fed and alert.

Setting Up for a Long Stay

Despite being prepared to ‘rough it out’ while hunting for days, there is no reason that you have to resign to being uncomfortable. If you are bringing along a buddy, you can keep yourselves entertained with card games or word puzzles. You will need light so that you can see in the dark, a source of heat to warm you up fast and a nice cushioned place to sit. Bring a change of dry clothes and some scent elimination spray to keep the animals from winding you. They are more relaxed and will linger longer when they don’t know any humans are around.

It can take hours before you see anything worthwhile when hunting. Some prefer to set up traps and lures while others prefer to go after whatever comes within their sights. Whether you want to get several trophies or you are just testing your skills, a lengthy hunting trip can be a great experience. Take everything that is needed to keep you safe and comfortable, bring along some cover. The most patient hunters always have the best stories to tell family and friends.
