Our use of Game/Trail cameras leading up to and during the hunting season has been educational, exciting and revealed many secrets in the woods. We started using the motion cameras prior to the season to evaluate the age of bucks, buck- doe- ratio’s, overall health of our deer herd as well as fawn recruitment rates. During the season we patterned deer movement and found areas that mature bucks were frequenting as well as found a variety of other game.
We used multiple cameras and then moved them around to various parts of our hunting property on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. You never know what is going to show up in-front of these cameras. Let’s take a look at some of the photo’s we got during the hunting season.

Trail cameras are the best aid we have in helping us with our management plan by giving us 7 by 24 visibility of our hunting property and they add excitement to each trip to the ranch. There are a number of companies producing some incredible products so check each out to determine cost vs efficiency to meet your particular scouting needs.
The 17 point, mature buck surprised us all by showing up on our cameras at the end of November. Despite getting 13 different photos of this buck on our cameras, he evaded all hunters during the last hunting season. A buck like this will give us all something to think about during the off season. I wonder how big he will be next year!
