doors opened to the largest SHOT Show in history at the Orange County
Approaching the close of its third decade,
the SHOT Show set records with more than 1,870 exhibitors, 656,000
square feet of exhibit space and realized a 40,000-square-foot increase
in the Law Enforcement section alone. Participants from every state and
75 countries will come together in the show’s more than 1.3 million
“It is at the SHOT Show that our industry
provides a glimpse of what’s to come over the next year,” said Doug
Painter, president of the National Shooting Sports Foundation, which
owns and sponsors the show.
Manufacturers agree that the show has become an indispensable part of their business.
“This show is the ‘big Kahuna.’ If you don’t
make your new product introduction here, you’ll lose a year of income.
It’s that simple,” said Lewis Danielson, president of Crimson Trace.
“I really have no idea where my company would be without this SHOT Show,” said John Vehrs, president of Timney Triggers.
According to the National Sporting Goods
Association, hunting and firearm sales in 2005 grew 6 percent from ’04.
That’s two times more than the growth of the athletic and sports
equipment market as a whole.
The SHOT Show has ballooned to one of the top
30 trade shows in North America and will generate over $45 million in
revenue for the Orlando area. Today the show sports more than 13 miles
of carpet, giving attendees only 65 seconds if they were to visit every
booth on the floor. A staggering statistic, especially when compared to
the first show’s 290 booths, 28 years ago in St. Louis, Mo.
