Field Evaluation - Excalibur Exocet Crossbow

Excalibur's new Exocet 200 is a recurve crossbow, with a 15.5 power stroke.  It delivers the arrow at a sizzling 330 feet per second.  The mass weight of the bow is 6.4 lbs. I found it to be easy to hold and very well balanced, not weight forward and with a 3 lb pull the trigger was smooth and crisp.

Excalibur's claim is that " it is the most accurate crossbow on the market".  After sighting in and firing a few arrows it was  shooting  11/2 inch groups at 30 yds.  I also noticed deeper penetration on the target, compared to other bows I have shot.  This bow has a 200 lb draw weight.  One problem experienced was, while sitting in my wheelchair, I was unable to cock the bow, even with the string cocker that was provided .  Fortunately, all Excalibur bows come equipped to handle the  Crankaroo cocking device. (the Crankaroo is sold separately)

Once in place, it makes cocking the bow a snap.  This hand cranking device pulls the string into position.  Once you start cranking, it has a locking mechanism which allows the handle to stay in place if  you let go of it.  You can not use the Crankaroo to uncock the bow , so always keep an extra arrow with a field point to shoot off the bow.  With a little practice, I was able to cock the bow in 45 seconds. When done, just loosen the bolt, crank up the string and put it away.  The Crankaroo is a little bulky and won't fit in your pocket but if it is the only way I can get my bow to a firing position, I can put up with having to carry an extra pack.

The Exocet comes complete with arrows, quiver, field points and a pack of broad heads.  As an addition you can order it with the scope  package.  This package comes with a scope set for 20,30,40 and 50 yards , rings, wax, scope cloth, extra string and all the Allan wrenches you need to assemble your bow.  It has easy to read instructions and a DVD that cover everything you need to know from assembly to firing the bow.

This bow when cocked does not put the safety on, so you must always remember to put the safety on manually.

For those of you who are into speed, this is a very fast bow with good accuracy and hard hitting power.  The Crankaroo was a big help and definitely worth having.  I felt the best feature was the very light weight and good balance.
