The RollAid release was sent to me recently to evaluate.  It's a string style release, and after shooting from a string loop for years, it was something new for me to get used to.  The product came professionally packaged and a quick inspection showed it to be well built.  I tried it on and it felt great in my hand.  I shoot a thumb release, so having a "trigger" was going to be an interesting change as well.

I had to come up with a new anchor point for the different release style, but found it to be an easy transition.  The only thing that I would have done differently in design would be to have replaced the Velcro style wrist strap with a buckle style.  Having to open Velcro when I'm trying to be silent in a tree stand just doesn't work out well for me.  I also find it hard to position it exactly the same each time I put it on with Velcro where I can go to the same hole each time on a buckle.

On to the important things:  I took the release down to my range and set up for the real test.  I like the fact that the release doesn't "snap" onto the string.  You have to push the trigger forward which means that you know for sure that it's locked on.  Two rollers grip the serving of the string instead of a "pinch" or "claw" style release.

What this does is make the whole process extremely smooth and causes almost no damage or wear on the string.  Pulling the trigger releases the rollers letting them spin freely.  In turn, the string is let go smoothly and evenly.  Pulling back with the RollAid was smooth and comfortable.

It felt solid all the way through the draw and I quickly and easily found a new anchor point.  The trigger is completely adjustable with the use of an included hex wrench.  I have mine set on, "A light breeze will set it off!"  I remain pleased after a month and well over 200 shots!  I will definitely continue to use this product in the future.

The company boasts this of their product:
  • Increased Accuracy and Draw Power for more penetration
  • Patented Roller Bearing/Caliper System
  • The fastest, smoothest release aid available
  • Machined aluminum and stainless steel for long life
  • Tested to 120 lbs
  • Adjustable trigger for maximum performance
  • Minimizes serving damage
  • For target, 3-D, competition or hunting
  • Available in concho or wrist strap models
  • Unlimited Warranty
  • Left or Right Hand

At the end of the testing, I can honestly say that I liked this release.  It's well made, solid, and very, very smooth.  Its price matches its value and I think anyone wanting a new release would enjoy shooting the RollAid from Pro Release, Inc.  My only real change would be to get rid of the Velcro wrist strap, but that may just be my personal preference.  To find out more, go to : Pro Release
