When Nikon introduced its Premier LX binocular series five years ago, it prided itself in creating one of the finest hunting binoculars on the planet-not by its own acclaim, but by that of gun editors, guides and serious hunters alike. Now, Nikon has updated and improved the line with new advancements in optical technology, manufacturing methodology and state-of-the-art materials. The result is the new Nikon Premier LXL. (Visit Nikon Optics.)
Long considered one of the finest binocular designs in the optics world, the new Premier LX, now features substantially reduced weight, environment friendly materials and enhanced ergonomics. The result is what Nikon refers to as a "higher performance-to-weight ratio."
Each binocular in the Premier LXL line has been reduced in weight from its original incarnation to make them easier to carry for long days in the field. The original 42mm LX has been dropped from 34.5 to 28.0 ounces in the 8x42 and from 34.5 to 27.8 ounces in the 10x42--an astounding 19% weight-reduction from the original 42mm LX. Additionally, the weight has been further reduced in the already featherweight 32mm and compact models of the Premier LXL.
In order to trim weight, Nikon utilized a tough new magnesium-alloy body-just as rugged as the previous aluminum-alloy body, but lighter in weight. To further reduce heft, Nikon cloned the outstanding optical qualities of the LX lens system and rebuilt it out of new lead-and arsenic-free Eco-Glass-a substantially lighter-weight alternative that is also much friendlier to the environment than typical leaded glass.
According to Nikon, it has preserved the award-winning optical qualities of the original LX lens system, including the eyepiece lens design which allows for superior sharpness, clarity and complete flatness of viewing field, specially multicoated objective lenses for maximum brightness in any light condition and phase correction coated prisms with high reflection silver coatings for the ultimate in color contrast and clear, round images.
Primarily an ergonomic enhancement, the Premier LXL now features vinyl chloride-free rubber armor that offers users an improved tactile gripping surface-even while wet. Nikon has also added soft-touch silicon rubber surfaces to new click-stop turn & slide eyecups, which improve the overall versatility of the LXL binocular for users with and without eyeglasses.
The Premier LXL series continues to feature a precise, conveniently located central focusing control positioned for fast, easy focusing. The locking diopter maintains left/right vision balance.
8x42 Premier LX-L
The 8x42 LXL has a seven-degree angle of view and a 366-foot field of view, while the 10-power version has an angle of view of six degrees and a field of view of 315-feet. The models weigh 28.0 ounces and 27.8 ounces respectively and have close focus distances of just 9.8 feet, allowing exceptional close-range viewing resolution.
The new 8x32 Premier LX-L
The 8x32 LXL has a 7.8-degree angle of view and a 408-foot field of view at 1,000 yards while the 10-power version has an angle of view of 6.5 degrees and a field of view of 340-feet at 1,000 yards. Both models weigh only 24.5 ounces and close-focus to less than nine feet, allowing easy portability and exceptional close-range resolution. Each measures 5"x 5.4".
And measuring a scant 4.3" x 3.8" (8x20) and 4.3" x 4.4" (10x25), the two mini Premier LXL binoculars tip the scales at just 9.5 and 10.5 ounces each, making them as portable as anything on the planet when it comes to high performance optics.
The mini LXL optical system also provides huge fields of view (356 feet @ 1,000 yds. with the 8-power and 282 feet @ 1,000 yds. with the 10-power), lengthy eye relief (15mm for both models) and close-focus distances that are unheard of among the world's high-end compacts--7.8-feet with the 8x20 and 10.4-feet with the 10x25.
For waterproof/fogproof performance under the most adverse weather conditions the Premier LXL line is O-ring sealed and filled with dry nitrogen. A tough protein rubber exterior coating enhances durability and provides a sure grip--wet or dry.
Nikon Premier LXL binoculars are available in finer sporting goods stores and authorized Nikon Photo Dealers nationwide.
