Fall Food Plots – Let’s Grow
  • Facebook
It’s hard to believe that the last week of July has arrived. It feels like just a few days ago that I planted my spring food plots using the Kunz Engineering Chisel Plow. The chisel plow made it easy to prepare my hardpan soil for planting. The Domain Mother Load seeds and the Icognito seeds performed as expected, and now it’s time to plant the fall plots.

Hooyman 24V Spreader and Sprayer!

Two New Tools
Once I finished planting my spring plots, I decided to dive into researching spreaders and sprayers. I enjoyed watching various reviews on YouTube, and after careful consideration, I chose the Hooyman 24V Electric Spreader and the 4 Gallon Electric Sprayer. They arrived promptly, and I couldn’t wait to try out the sprayer to apply Soil Pro Boost to the Domain Incognito! It exceeded my expectations—it was super comfortable to wear and made the spraying process incredibly easy.

Last year, I used a bag spreader that I found a bit tricky to wear, and tweaking the settings for different seed sizes was quite the challenge. I’m excited to share that I recently tried the Hooyman 35 LB 24V Electric Spreader, and its harness is fantastic and so comfortable! With a three-hour runtime and easy-to-use knobs for quick adjustments, spreading the Domain Seed mixes across my four small plots was a breeze. I genuinely recommend both the electric sprayer and the electric spreader for anyone managing small plots. They are absolute game changers and truly make the work easier!

Domain Seed Mixes
Domain has an amazing selection of seed mixes designed to nourish deer and other wildlife! I planted some fantastic options in my plots: Cheat Code, Green Machine, Hall Pass, No BS, Big Sexy, Smack Down, Comeback Kid, and Hot Chic. I chose these mixes for their strong root systems and their ability to produce abundant green, leafy protein throughout the fall and into winter. I can’t wait to see which mixes the deer love the most!

Quick Germination
The Good Lord blessed my newly planted plots with several rain showers. After six days of waiting, I visited my property to check on the seeds. I was amazed to see how many had germinated and how healthy the plots looked after just six days. I am extremely impressed with their appearance so soon. Deer and turkey have been frequenting the plots every day since the seeds sprouted. I can’t wait to see how they develop over the next few weeks.
