The Buckstik BuckBranch
Last week, I was excited to share how to set up a BuckStik, and this week, I can’t wait to continue showcasing BuckStik’s amazing products by guiding you through setting up the BuckBranch! This product is truly special as it creates a horizontal scrape without needing any tools. Each BuckBranch features a convenient screw-in adapter, making it easy to place along major trails or on a rubbing post. It’s such a breeze to set up, and deer are irresistibly drawn to it! Let’s dive into the setup process together and make the most of this fantastic product!
In The Tube
The BuckBranch comes packaged in a long black tube, which contains the BuckBranch itself, a screw-in adaptor, and three small bottles of gland lure. It’s best to keep everything in the tube until you’re ready to set it up in the field. Here are the specifications for the BuckBranch:
-
Easy screw-in base that requires no tools.-
-
Ideal for travel lanes and pinch points.
-
Constructed from durable fiberglass for years of use.
-
The leaf assembly includes a coconut-fiber rope, artificial leaves, and a realistic vine/rope combination.
-
The middle section features an interactive synthetic rubbing strip designed to hold and retain deer DNA as they interact with it.
-
Additionally, it includes a 3-pack of pure gland secretions (5 ml each), which can last over 2 years if used properly. The BuckBranch ships in a sturdy tube, making it easy to transport to your location.
Setting Up The BuckBranch
The BuckBranch is designed to be placed over major trails and travel lanes. I prefer to set mine up in areas where several major trails converge. The key to effectively setting up the BuckBranch is to ensure it is at the correct height. If it is too high or too low, deer will not engage with it as frequently. I like to position the leaves and vines between 48 and 52 inches off the ground. Additionally, I prefer to angle my BuckBranch slightly upward, allowing deer to push it higher and effectively utilize their forehead gland.
After installing the BuckBranch in your desired location, it’s time to apply the gland lure.
1. Begin with the bottle labeled “preorbital gland.” Wear a pair of gloves and spray 3 to 4 times into your hands. Rub your hands together, then apply the preorbital gland lure to the vine and ropes, taking care to avoid the leaves.
2. Next, grab the bottle labeled “forehead gland.” Again, spray 3 to 4 times into your hands. It’s fine to mix the preorbital and forehead glands at this stage. Use your hands to rub the gland lure along the middle of the BuckBranch, specifically where the rubbing strip is located.
3. For the final step, clear away some ground under the end of the BuckBranch and apply a few sprays of the interdigital gland lure into the scrape you’ve made.
Now that the BuckBranch is set up, it’s time to hang your camera and prepare for the excitement ahead. I highly recommend using a traditional trail camera that can record videos lasting one minute or longer. Personally, I prefer the SpyPoint Force-Pro-S 2.0 camera for my BuckBranches because it captures video with audio for up to one minute.
The Results
The BuckBranch is one of my favorite products to set up at a scrape. It’s easy to use, deer love it, and it’s incredibly durable. I have a few BuckBranches that have been in the same spot for over three years. The BuckBranch is strong, holds a lot of scent, and attracts deer effectively. Check out the video above to see the exciting action at your BuckBranch.
Next week, I’ll teach you about the BuckVine and how to set it up for success. Make sure to set up those scrapes before the season begins. Best of luck, and don’t forget to check out all the excellent products from BuckStik!
