The temperature was zero with six inches of snow on the ground, and a friend and I were excited about the challenge. Could we handle the cold weather, stay warm, and maybe take a late-season buck? Knowing I’d have to sit on the ground, I wore a turkey vest with an insulating seat pad to help keep my core warm. Also, I found a headnet in one pocket and wore it despite its thin mesh. Surprisingly, the meager headnet made a massive difference by redirecting my warm breath, so I wasn’t breathing cold air.

Simple Yet Versatile
The beauty of a neck gator is its light weight, simplicity, and versatility. It is basically a foot-long tube of stretchy material that can be worn over your neck to keep drafty winds from robbing body heat. That’s a benefit right there. However, it can also be worn as a beanie when walking to a stand or stalking, so your head doesn’t sweat from exertion while wearing a warm hat. Since the shine of a human face often alerts deer, when appropriately configured, the gator can act as a face mask and an insulator. The following video is just four minutes and demonstrates all of these uses and how easy and insulating a neck gator can be.
