Mechanicals VS Fixed Blade Broadheads

Grim Reaper Carni Four.

We often get asked which is better: a mechanical broadhead or a fixed blade? There really isn’t an easy answer to this question. From the start, Grim Reaper Broadheads  has always been a mechanical broadhead company. We believe there are many benefits to shooting a mechanical broadhead. Below you will find a few of the reasons prefer mechanical broadheads.

For starters, a mechanical broadhead flies like a dart. Over the past several decades, bows have gotten faster. In many cases, large fixed blade broadheads can’t handle the speed a modern day bow dishes out. The large blades cause erratic flight and make long range shots very difficult. Grim Reaper mechanical heads truly do fly like a field point so long range shots can be made even when the bowhunter is shooting a high poundage, high performance bow.

Another reason we like mechanical heads is because they offer a large cutting diameter and more blade surface area. One of the greatest benefits Grim Reaper broadheads offer is a large cutting diameter is when shot placement isn’t perfect, the animal still goes down. Some say this type of broadhead is ‘More forgiving’, we feel it’s also  ‘More Lethal’.

Not long ago, the only option a bowhunter had was a fixed blade broadhead. If their shot was off a little, if the animal moved before the arrow hit, or if they misjudged distance, the result was often a wounded animal that went unrecovered. Because the Grim Reaper lineup offers superior penetration and a large cutting diameter, the odds of recovering an animal even when the shot isn’t perfect is pretty good.

Some bowhunters don’t like the thought of using a mechanical broadhead because they don’t like the idea of a broadhead that has moving parts. For those bowhunters, we offer the Hades and the Hades Fixed Blade broadhead. This compact power house is built for speed and designed to kill.

Another option is our Hybrid broadhead. This head has two fixed blades and two mechanical blades. The fixed blades offer a 1-3/16” cutting diameter and the mechanical blades have a 1.5” cutting diameter. Combined, this head offers a whopping 2.69” of cutting surface.

Some bowhunters like mechanical broadheads; others like fixed blade. With Grim Reaper, we offer you both.
