Back in early March, I was excited to share my article, “Setting Cameras for Turkeys,” where I outlined my camera setups for scouting the upcoming Pennsylvania Spring Turkey Season. Now that the season is just around the corner, I’m thrilled to share the fantastic insights I’ve gathered from my SpyPoint cameras, which have been diligently capturing all the action! Let’s dive into what I’ve discovered and get ready for an amazing turkey season ahead!
Food Plot Cameras
I’ve strategically placed several SpyPoint Cameras around my food plots, and I’m thrilled to share that they’ve been capturing numerous groups of gobblers visiting regularly! It’s particularly exciting to see a few mature toms arriving each day, searching for that perfect hen. The diverse spots within the plots provide ample opportunities to set up decoys, making the anticipation even more exhilarating. I can’t wait for the chance to connect with one of these magnificent birds and proudly attach my tag to its leg!
Rough Life
Being a gobbler must be tough! Check out this video of a group of toms. It seems like they have it pretty good, as the three of them are hanging out in the food plot before flying up to their roost for the night. This information is invaluable! If my cameras continue to capture this activity, I’ll know exactly where to set up on the opening morning of the PA turkey season.
Kung Fu Fighting
Every time I set up my cameras to scout for turkeys, I eagerly anticipate some exciting action! Recently, I placed a camera in a well-known fly-down area, and I was thrilled to capture an incredible video. Make sure to turn up the volume to hear the gobblers as they engage in a fierce battle! This is one of the largest confrontations I’ve ever recorded. The SpyPoint Flex S Dark truly excels in capturing such fantastic footage!
Just Passing Through
I’m always delighted when turkeys pop up in unexpected spots! I have a camera set up near a community scrape that deer often visit, and usually, I don’t catch any turkeys on it. Imagine my surprise when I spotted a video of three turkeys strolling by! It’s moments like these that truly make nature so fascinating!
Strutting Areas
Installing cameras in strutting areas is incredibly beneficial! Check out the video showcasing the bearded hen and the gobbler trying to win her over—it’s fascinating! I’ve successfully harvested several toms from this area, and given the exciting activity I’ve observed, it truly looks like a fantastic spot to set up for this year. I can’t wait to see what unfolds!
Finding the perfect spots to set up scouting cameras for turkeys is an exciting challenge, and the effort truly pays off! While my spring days are filled with teaching, coaching soccer, and other activities, I happily rely on my SpyPoint cameras to do the legwork for me. This strategy not only keeps me connected without disturbing the turkeys but also ensures they stick to their natural routines. It’s a win-win for both me and the amazing wildlife!
