Spinal Cord Shot Challenge
Welcome to Week #5 of the Turkey Challenge! I hope you have been staying on track with each weekly challenge. I have been putting in a lot of effort to prepare for the moment of truth, should it come this spring. Enjoy this week’s challenge, and let’s shoot some arrows!

KillDrift Outdoors
This week’s challenge is sponsored by KillDrift Outdoors, the makers of the Drifter! The Drifter is powered by a lithium battery and offers up to 7 hours of use on a single charge. It features three modes—low, medium, and high—allowing hunters to control the amount of scent or mosquito repellent released. The Drifter can be used in a variety of ways. Be sure to check out the Drifter before turkey season begins, so you won’t be overwhelmed by bloodthirsty mosquitoes!
Spinal Cord Challenge
Here we go for Week #5! I was hoping to complete this challenge outside, but unfortunately, the weather hasn’t cooperated. For the second week in a row, I am challenging you to take a head shot at a turkey. This week, you will aim for the base of the turkey’s neck, where the neck meets the feathers. A turkey’s spinal cord consists of 13 cervical vertebrae that are only a few millimeters wide, so an accurate shot is essential. Let’s review the challenge for this week.
-
Set up a paper target depicting the turkey’s spinal cord. (I taped mine to my Big Shot Target)
-
Place your chair anywhere between 10 and 15 yards.
-
Shoot 1 arrow at the base of the turkey’s neck.
-
Use a tape measure and measure the distance from the center of your arrow to the spinal cord.
-
Repeat the shot 2 more times and measure each arrow.
-
Do the challenge each night for the entire week.
